Arbor Day—which literally translates to “tree” day from the Latin origin of the word arbor—is a holiday that celebrates the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees.
Florida’s Arbor Day in 2025 will be on Friday, January 17. National Arbor Day will be on Friday, April 25.
Arbor Day is celebrated to recognize the importance of trees and the environment. Florida celebrates Arbor Day in January because the trees are dormant and lose less water, making them easier to transplant.
In 2024 SGC held its Arbor Day tree planting ceremony at Park School in Sarasota, which is a school for special needs students. The children planted a Gumbo Limbo Tree, who’s nickname is “Tourist Tree”, perfect for Florida.
