As we approach Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11th with the City of Sarasota parade down Main Street and a ceremony held at Rev. JD Hamel Park on Gulfstream Ave and Route 41, we would like to gather a group of members and friends to refresh The Doughboy sculpture memorial garden before the big day.
Any and all are welcome to join us at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, November 5th to remove depleted plantings, dig and amend the soil, and replant the small circular bed surrounding the statue with mulch, fresh flowers and small shrubs.
This memorial honors all Veterans lost during wars and conflicts from the local area and is highlighted by its prime placement in the area where many visitors attend festivals, concerts and art shows held in the park.
The Doughboy plantings have been lovingly maintained over the years by member Adrienne Wagner and her husband John and other members of Sarasota Garden Club.
Please join us for a fun community activity to beautify this treasured space. 9:30 AM, 11/5/25
Plants, digging tools and garden soil will be provided. Please bring a trowel/digger tool and gardening gloves if you have them.
Free parking available on Gulfstream Avenue. Come with a friend and carpool if you can.
Please call, text or email Carol Lackey if you have questions. 215-518-8479
