TO EXPLAIN: Awards & Honors

AWARDS are applied for, and hopefully won, in competition with other clubs’ projects and accomplishments – and are organized by:

  1. NGC, that’s the National Garden ClubREAD MORE ABOUT NGC AWARDS – Award Period is January 1 – December 31 and the deadline for submitting awards is November 27.  CLICK HERE TO READ THE WHOLE HANDBOOK(The Awards given out at our Flower Shows, which members are most familiar with, are a sub-set of the NGC/FFGC Awards and given out AT THE FLOWER SHOW, so do not adhere to the Award Period or Deadline.)
  2. FFGC, that’s the Florida Federation of Garden ClubsREAD MORE ABOUT THE FFGC AWARDS – Award Period is January 1 – December 31 and the deadline for submitting awards is November 29.

What are given out at our Annual General Meeting are HONORS, which are rewards for dedicated service (not in competition – rather recognition) e.g. Rose Awards for ????? etc.

AWARD OPPORTUNITIES FOR AMATEUR NATURE PHOTOGRAPHERS!

The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs recognizes and awards outstanding non-professional digital photography taken by its members. Photographers may submit up to six entries, one per each of the following six Classes:

  1. Class A – Photographs of Birds and/or Butterfliessubmit five photographs taken in a natural setting. Include brief description identifying each bird/butterfly and give location where each picture was taken.
  2. Class B – Photographs of a landscaped Florida gardensubmit five photographs of a landscaped Florida garden with a brief description of the various locations depicted in the collection. No people should be in the photographs.
  3. Class C – Photographs of a Florida wildflower, preferably in its natural habitat – submit five photographs of the same species of wildflower. Two of the photographs should show the flower in its micro-environment, and three of the photographs should be close-ups of different plants in the same location.
  4. Class D – Photographs of a flowering tree growing in Floridasubmit five photographs: two photographs should show the entire tree viewed from different viewpoints, and three photographs should be close-ups of individual blooms and/or branches.
  5. Class E – Photographs of plants on the Florida Conservation Listsubmit five photographs. Plants should be photographed in their natural habitat.
  6. Class F – Photographs (five required) of plants in one of the following subjects:
    • Plants in a specific garden
    • Lifecycle of a specific plant or Florida scenery

All photographs should be in JPEG format. The following information should be provided for each photograph:

  • names of birds and butterflies
  • botanical names of plants
  • location where photographs were taken and
  • dates when they were taken.

The award value is $25 for each class.
