Education

Sarasota Garden Club is committed to educating its members and the public on Florida Friendly Gardening and Environmental issues, Landscaping and Gardening, Floral Design creativity and Horticultural hands-on activities, research and discussion. Many programs are delivered at the Botanical Gardens.

As a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. a wide variety of programs developed, sponsored and delivered by members are available to our membership.

Many programs are delivered at the Sarasota Garden Club.

Sarasota Garden Club’s Horticultural Study Group – Meetings are held to study and share information on Florida plants and gardening gathered from speakers’ and members’ research.

Sarasota Garden Club’s Floral Design Programs – Our year long program is planned to introduce members, from beginners to advanced designers, on latest trends and provide inspiration for creativity using plant materials using the principals of design. Many design styles are discussed and shown in preparation for the annual Flower Show that has been held for over 75 years in Sarasota. Members are also encouraged to enter other club shows to improve and enjoy their interest in design.

NGC Environmental Studies School – This series of classes were developed for clubs as a service to their communities. It is to teach environmental literacy to cherish, protect, and conserve the living earth. The courses encourage action for sustainable development and appreciation for the interrelation of all natural things.

NGC Gardening Study School – This school is designed to provide information on topics of interest to those especially interested in gardening, horticulture and related topics.

NCG Landscape Design Study School – This educational program was developed to offer a greater sense of appreciation and knowledge about our private and public gardens. Members have found the program inspirational, leading to the development of important civic and private projects.

NGC Flower Show School – The purpose of this school experience is to stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design, provide an outlet for creative expression, to educate club members and the viewing public and to convey to the community the objectives of NGC clubs.

FFGC Floral Design Study Series – This design curriculum series was designed as a series of lectures, demonstrations, and critiqued, workshops sponsored by FFGC. The program focuses on basic floral design for the home and for Flower shows using fresh live plant materials and flowers. Study units are sponsored by Sarasota Garden Club during the year. A certificate is award upon completion after 6 units although advance units are also available.
